A letter from Kelly & Norah

This year has been such a special one for Baby2Baby. We judge our success by the number of children we reach and the amount of essentials we provide to them, so here is a snapshot:

Since last year’s event, we have added 20,000 more low-income children to the Baby2Baby program to reach our goal of serving 100,000 kids in Los Angeles. This included the addition of 25 new partner organizations ranging from the The Midnight Mission, which has been serving homeless families in the Skid Row area for a century to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, which many people do not realize predominantly serves a population living below the federal poverty line. We now have 1,380 social workers, home visitors and teachers who visit the Baby2Baby headquarters on a daily basis to pick up items for these families.

It was a record year for diapers, our most coveted item — we distributed 3.7 million! We also distributed 2 million baby wipes, 123,000 units of clothing, 62,000 toys, 43,000 backpacks, 22,000 hygiene products and 15,700 books. We continued to focus on our Sweet Dreams initiative, our pledge to provide a safe place to sleep to every child in our program, and met 100% of the requests we received. With all of this gear combined, many of the donations from the people in this room, we collected 6.7 million essential children's items this year.

This community makes it possible for us to do what we do. In 2015, we had 122 donation drives at schools and offices, 43 businesses that served as permanent drop off locations and 6,500 volunteer hours.

While Los Angeles is our home and will always remain our focus, this year we were able to take our message national with the launch of the Baby2Baby National Network. The network brings together 16 inaugural organizations from 19 cities across the country including Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas. We hosted a successful summit in May and have since provided advice, guidance, opportunities and gear to all of them. As the leader of this network, Baby2Baby hopes to elevate the work of every member organization and serve even more children with the basic necessities that every child deserves.

We are thrilled to report on this enormous growth, but we are also constantly mindful of the challenges ahead. There are more than 410,000 children, ages 0-12, living in poverty in Los Angeles. As proud as we are to serve 100,000 children, there are over 300,000 children we are not yet reaching. We need everyone’s help in this room to make this a reality.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your help in getting Baby2Baby to where it is today. We are grateful for your continued support and commitment as we tackle the next steps.

All our best,

Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein
