Baby2Baby is a non-profit organization that provides children living in poverty with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves. In the last decade, Baby2Baby has distributed over 200 million items to children in homeless shelters, domestic violence programs, foster care, hospitals and underserved schools as well as children who have lost everything in the wake of disaster. During the COVID crisis, Baby2Baby has reached over one million children in over 150 cities across the country.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Senior Manager will support all activities related to relationship management, engagement, solicitation and communication with our individual donors, foundation, corporate and event supporters.

This individual will partner closely with the development, marketing, event, and program teams to support short- and long-term plans for donor retention, diversification of revenue streams, identification of new funding opportunities, and stewardship through in-person events. These efforts will support a robust fundraising program and will provide additional capacity to the rapidly growing individual giving and foundation grants effort at Baby2Baby.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter with strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and efficiently with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Manager, Development will work Monday – Friday. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this individual will spend part of the week at Baby2Baby’s offices (5830 W. Jefferson Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90016) and the other part of the week working from home. This is evolving and subject to change.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works in close collaboration with the Director of Development to support and advance all efforts to raise over $15M annually, through a combination of major gifts, institutional grants, corporate sponsorships and high-profile annual gala.
  • With oversight from the Director of Development, identifies, writes, and prepares compelling grant proposals, reports and budgets for funders and partners.
  • Manages a grant tracking system to meticulously track all deliverable due dates and reporting deadlines in an accurate manner.
  • Coordinates with program, finance and communication departments to gather all needed information, statistics and collateral to prepare and write up-to-date and compelling grant proposals, funder pitches and donor communications.
  • Performs prospecting research to create briefs/profiles about aligned priorities and giving patterns, and to recommend approaches for both individual and foundation donors.
  • Supports Director of Development and Co-CEOs in preparation for all donor meetings, by contributing to:
    • Researching and preparing Donor Meeting Briefings
    • Preparing slide decks, one-pagers, and other collateral to support development
    • Updating Donor Database with key development activity and meeting reports
  • In conjunction with Director of Development and other leadership, supports various donor growth activities, including one-on-one and site visits, tours, volunteer events and other small gatherings. Cultivates, stewards, solicits a pipeline of mid-level donors and prospects, as appropriate.
  • Builds a growth strategy for and create opportunities for engaging new lower-to-mid-level individual donors, with an eye towards demonstrating the impact of their giving and growing their gifts to include support of online campaigns and other fundraising efforts.
  • Serves as a thought-partner with the Director of Development and other staff to identify and implement new and creative donor engagement and recognition strategies.
  • Becomes a Baby2Baby expert and excels in telling our story to donors, prospects and volunteers. Acts as a poised, clear and compelling spokesperson for the organization as needed at in-person fundraising, cultivation and volunteer events.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years’ experience in development and fundraising, including grant writing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Direct experience interfacing with donors, with a sound understanding of development best practices and steps required to building strong donor relationships.
  • Self-motivated, results driven, detail oriented, and adaptable. Proven success working within a highly flexible, entrepreneurial culture.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven ability to tell a compelling story.
  • Flexibility and a proven ability to innovate and find creative solutions to challenges.
  • Experience using donor databases/CRM systems and a commitment to data integrity.
