Baby2Baby provides children living in poverty with diapers, clothing, and all the basic necessities that every child deserves. In the last 12 years, Baby2Baby has distributed over 300 million items to children in homeless shelters, domestic violence programs, foster care, hospitals and underserved schools as well as children who have lost everything in the wake of disaster. During the COVID crisis, Baby2Baby has reached over one million children in over 150 cities across the country.

Position Overview

As Baby2Baby has entered a stage of significant opportunity and growth, we seek a dynamic, creative, and entrepreneurial development professional who wants to make a difference by joining this vibrant team and providing strategic leadership in development.

This Senior Director, Development will be critical in expanding and strengthening development efforts to raise more than $16 million per year. This will take place through relationship-building, cultivation and solicitation of donors, the oversight of development systems and best practices for the organization, and close partnership with the co-CEOs, COO, CFO, and other leaders of the development and marketing teams.

This role has an enormous potential for impact. The ideal candidate for this role will be collaborative, entrepreneurial, process-oriented, energetic, and adaptable. This will be someone who has strong relationships with and knowledge of donors in the Los Angeles-area and beyond, and is well-versed in fundraising best practices, with the experience to develop strategic and effective fundraising plans, execute to meet objectives, and problem-solve independently.

This Senior Director, Development will work Monday-Friday at 5830 W.  Jefferson Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90016. The work is performed in an office setting and is currently in office on site at least 3 days per week. This is evolving and subject to change.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with Co-CEOs and other fundraising team leads, provides leadership in all areas including planning and analysis, major donor cultivation and solicitation, institutional funder growth, development operations, coordination of engagement strategies, and other related activities.
  • Personally cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of major donors, prospects and key strategic partners at the five-, six- and seven-figure level.
  • Strategically expands Baby2Baby’s institutional funding portfolio by researching, cultivating relationships with and preparing grant requests for foundation funders and prospects.
  • Builds relationships with key public officials to increase likelihood for funding. Researches, applies for, and begins to secure relevant government funding, when appropriate.
  • Performs prospect research and leads the wealth capacity analysis of current donors to create a robust pipeline of major gift prospects with aligned priorities and giving patterns.
  • Builds a growth strategy for mid-level donors (10K-50K) with an eye towards demonstrating the impact of their giving and converting to major and leadership-level donors.
  • In collaboration with development and engagement staff, helps execute a calendar of donor, volunteer, and stakeholder events, designed to cultivate and steward existing donors and potential prospects.
  • Becomes a Baby2Baby expert and excels in telling our story to donors, prospects, and volunteers. Acts as a clear and compelling spokesperson for the organization at in-person fundraising, cultivation and volunteer events.
  • Oversees the implementation and management of best practices in development infrastructure, including systems, processes, and tools to ensure effectiveness and accountability across fundraising functions.
  • Leads the use of development data analysis to guide goal setting, inform activity and engagement strategies, and provide informed reporting for leadership and advisory groups.
  • Manages a growing team, including a Development Coordinator and Development Database Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

  • Confident and entrepreneurial development professional with a minimum of 8-10 years of fundraising experience.
  • A proven track record of personally cultivating, soliciting and stewarding high net worth individual donors and foundation funders, with a record of successfully securing 5-figure+ gifts.
  • Solid knowledge of development best practices and implementing necessary processes to support an efficient and effective development program.
  • Experience managing development operations and using data analysis and reporting to drive informed planning. Experience working with or overseeing development databases and crowdfunding platforms preferred.
  • Experience managing a successful team and driving forward individual goals.
  • Ambitious and self-driven; history of creating from scratch and/or advancing a development function within a fast-paced, high growth environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven ability to tell a compelling story.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and bring fresh ideas and approaches to development initiatives. Flexibility, drive, and a “roll-up-your-sleeves” approach.

Salary Range

This role’s salary range is between $100,000-130,000. Actual salary is determined based on a number of factors, including but not limited to your relevant skills, qualifications, and years of experience.
