It’s hard to believe that eight years ago, we were serving 500 low-income children out of a tiny storefront with just the two of us and one intern.  Because of the support of our incredible staff, Board and Angel group and volunteers, today we are serving 200,000 children living in poverty in Los Angeles and hundreds of thousands more across the country as well as children who have lost everything in the wake of disaster.  To date, we have distributed 70 million items including diapers, clothing and all the basic essentials that every child deserves.

One in three families in this country are struggling to afford diapers for their children.  As moms and Co-Presidents of Baby2Baby, this statistic has driven us to dedicate our careers to providing basic essentials to children in need. Diapers are the most important item we distribute at Baby2Baby, and they are like gold to the families we serve. Moms in our program are literally emptying out their babies’ dirty diapers, hanging them to dry and then reusing them on their babies.

Last year, we worked alongside Governor Newsom to repeal the sales tax on diapers – which is just one of the many burdens placed on low-income families who are already struggling to provide diapers for their babies. We are so proud that as of January 1, 2020, there is no more sales tax on diapers in the state of California.

But it’s not just diapers, and it’s not just babies.  In 2019, we partnered with the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard, to pledge one million backpacks to the children of Los Angeles during back-to-school season. It was the single largest donation in L.A.U.S.D. history.  For many of these children who are homeless or in foster care, backpacks not only hold their school books and homework, but also all of their personal belongings. When a child doesn’t have a backpack, they resort to using a grocery or trash bag. This donation gave children the pride they deserve and the confidence they need to start the year off on the right foot.

We continue to impact children living in poverty across the country.  The Baby2Baby National Network includes nine new members, so we are now reaching organizations in over 40 cities, from San Diego to Miami. And our disaster relief program has distributed over 10 million items to children affected by disasters.  We’ve sent cribs, blankets, bottles, shampoo and towels to children left homeless by hurricanes, floods and fires as well as other emergency situations.

We couldn’t have grown without our dedicated staff as well as our volunteers who just reached 60,000 hours of service.  Last year, we also moved into our new 21,000 square foot headquarters in Los Angeles, and we encourage you to come by to visit and volunteer.

The demand for Baby2Baby continues as there are currently 86,800 children in poverty represented on our waitlist. We are making every effort to reach them but need your support, companies, families, contacts and donations to do that.
